At the International Resource Recovery Conference in New York City in August 2017, CirTec received an award for Cellvation™. The award jury gave Cellvation™, a joint initiative of CirTec and KNN Cellulose, a high recommendation for further development.

The Cellvation™ technology produces high-quality cellulose fibres at a Waste Water Treatment Plant. The CirTec demonstration plant in Geestmerambacht recovers about 400 kg of cellulose per day from waste water. The cellulose, which is recycled toilet paper, is separated from hair, grease and other contaminations. The Cellvation™ process can be adjusted to the characteristics of the incoming waste water and the required quality of the cellulose. The end product is a clean, high-quality product. Depending on customer requirements, it can be pelletised or vacuum sealed. The Cellvation plant in Geestmerambacht is part of SMART-Plant, subsidised by the European Union and facilitated by Hoogheemraadschap Hollands Noorderkwartier.
