Removal of TSS, fats and hair

In order to limit the costs and efforts to water purification and to cope with existing odor problems, a Dutch Tannery decided to outsource the purification of its waste water. The existing treatment plant was renewed as part of the agreement, in such a way that the different partial streams are purified independently of each other. The mechanical pre-treatment is important for the several purification steps, from which, among other things, suspended matter, fats and hair must be removed. For the mechanical pre-treatment, Salsnes fine sieves were chosen.

From the production, four different wastewater streams (calcium, chromium, pickling and residual) are discharged to the WWTP from which, before the biological treatment, suspended solids, fats and hair should be removed. After filtration, the separated filter residue is fed into a digester, where the organic matter is converted into biogas.

Salsnes fine screens were used for the first time in The Netherlands on industrial waste water in these difficult waste water streams. After a difficult start-up period, in which both the (process) technical design and the alignment between the different process components required attention, the installed SFK model fine screen now runs to full satisfaction.
