In the SMART plant project a couple of technologies have been researched for the recovery and reuse of resources from sewage. The linear sewage treatment produces a clean water source, but at the cost of the potential to recover a lot of valuable resources. During this type of treatment the foulants are converted into greenhouse gasses and sludge. The treatment process is a very energy consuming process.
The technologies researched within SMART are focussed on the recovery of recourses and the useful application of these recovered materials. The SMART plant project makes the step to a circular treatment, in which the recovery and reuse of resources and water is central, easier. The SMART plant project has ended and the deliverables containing the findings of SMART plant are placed on the SMART plant website: https://www.smart-plant.eu

Within the Interreg project WOW!, CirTec coordinates the analysis of social acceptance of products from sewage water, amongst other things. Waterproof published an article about the research on social acceptance that Olivia de Hoog of the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen has done. You can read it here.
