From linear to circular sewage treatment facilities with SMART

In the SMART plant project a couple of technologies have been researched for the recovery and reuse of resources from sewage. The linear sewage treatment produces a clean water source, but at the cost of the potential to recover a lot of valuable resources. During this type of treatment the foulants are converted into greenhouse gasses and sludge. The treatment process is a very energy consuming process.
The technologies researched within SMART are focussed on the recovery of recourses and the useful application of these recovered materials. The SMART plant project makes the step to a circular treatment, in which the recovery and reuse of resources and water is central, easier.
